About Us

The Tiel family consists of Abram, Alice, daughter Diana  son Michael and wife Jackie, and their sons Ethan(3 years and Brody (born jan 2006).

Abram immigrated to Canada as a 3-year-old with his parents and two brothers and three sisters in 1949.  They moved to the farm in 1953 and started  milking Jerseys in1959.

Abram bought the farm from his parents in Jan 1972, and in April he married Alice .

They improved the 800 acre farm so that 400 acres produces hay and grain and 400 acres is pastureland.

In 1987, Dutchmeadow farms changed to purebred Holsteins, and with the help of Michael, started to show cattle. Michael was active in the 4-H ,and he won many awards, most enjoyable was when he won the Provincial Grand Champion Showmanship in  1995, and  the Judging  Competition at the Landmark Show in Morris. He had also many First placings with his heifers.

Afterwards he joined Alice for 5 years as a 4-H leader at the Rockwood 4-H Dairyclub. Michael is a fireman in Brandon ,Manitoba, but he still has a soft spot for the Canadian Holsteins.

Diana is the girl behind the scene, who was a great help on the farm, but showing is not in her blood.
She moved to Victoria BC, where she shows her talent in photoghraphy, you can find her all over the Island taking pictures of scenery ,animals and children.

In 2004 we sold the milking herd ,but retained all the youngstock.
We purchased some animals which we believed were our kind of cattle, exellent conformation, deep pedigree cows with the will to milk and show Grand daughters from; Idee Luster, Tony Beauty, Boots Jewel.are some of the heifers Other heifers from  strong ,longlasting cow families joined the herd.
